Before we formally launched Travel With Balls just over a month ago, I was telling a friend about our desire to get people to give out soccer balls to kids when they’re traveling in a developing country and she said, “Well, that sounds great for the boys people encounter, but what about the girls?”
Her assumption was that girls in developing countries aren’t interested in soccer. But in Nicaragua we gave five balls away to Futbol Sin Fronteras, a nonprofit organization that operates a thriving soccer league just for girls. And, as the pictures that Jeff Knoche took in Albania and Cathryn Brompton took in Brazil during their TWB adventures reveal, girls in those countries love getting in on the action.
So rest assured: girls need balls too!
